Am I a good candidate?
Not everyone is a good candidate for liposuction. While many people would like to lose excess pockets of fat that have not responded to diet and exercise, ultimately whether it is safe to do so depends on a number of factors. Patients who undergo Liposuction but do not fit the safety profile could suffer from crippling side-effects. Here is a guideline as to what makes a good candidate for Liposuction:
The patient is at least 18 years of age
The patient is within 15 kilograms of their ideal weight
The patient follows a regular exercise regime and eats a healthy diet
The patient does not suffer from a chronic illness or any conditions that put their organs at risk
The patient does not knowingly suffer from Lidocaine or other anaesthesia allergies
The patient does not smoke, or is willing to quit smoking for at least six weeks (three weeks before the procedure and three weeks after) in order to minimise bleeding
The patient is not pregnant nor lactating

Patients must always remember that Liposuction is a body contouring method, not a weight-loss solution. Those who have unrealistic expectations of what Liposuction will do should first consult with a surgeon. In the past, patients have been extremely disappointed with the final outcome of their procedure: to avoid this, you are advised to do extensive research of any Liposuction technique that you are considering.
